Rock removal is a perfect example. All of our fields have rocks the size of a coconut up to the size of a kiddie swimming pool. They are amazingly dense, wickedly heavy, and sometimes require a tractor to pull them from the earth. And on occasion…they can reside exactly where a pole is planned to be installed.
This year we decided to hire a drilling rig that would chew right through any of the rock we might encounter from just beneath the surface down to the bottom of each four foot hole. The lesson we learned was not to try and remove all rock throughout the entire hop yard.
